The task sounds simple: a website has a list of products, companies or jobs, and you want it in Excel. In practice the details get in the way. The data is spread over 40 pages, it loads as you scroll, prices are written as "$1,299.00", and half the fields you need are hidden inside item pages.
This article walks through the options honestly, from copy-paste to the Grabsavo extension. We start with the ones that need nothing installed.
Option 1. Select and copy
If there is not much data and it is already an HTML table, select it with the mouse, press Ctrl+C and paste into Excel. Excel usually splits it into columns correctly.
Works well when:
- it is one page with a few dozen rows;
- the data really is a table, not a grid of cards.
Does not work well when:
- the catalog is made of cards — you get one column mixed with button labels;
- there is more than one page — you repeat the process by hand;
- links and images are lost or turn into plain text.
Option 2. Power Query in Excel
Excel has a built-in web connector: Data → From Web (or Get Data → From Other Sources → From Web). You paste the page address, Excel opens the Navigator with the tables it found, you pick one and load it into a sheet. There is also Add Table Using Examples: you type a couple of values and Power Query looks for similar ones.
Pros: free, refreshable, the data lands straight in Excel.
Limits worth knowing:
- Power Query loads the page itself, without your browser session. If the data is only visible after you sign in, the connector probably will not see it.
- Lists that the site renders with scripts after loading often do not appear.
- Pagination has to be built by hand with query parameters and M functions. That is close to programming.
- The connector comes with Microsoft 365 subscriptions; older versions have the deprecated Web (Legacy) wizard.
For one tidy table on a public page, Power Query is a good choice.
Option 3. A browser extension
An extension works inside your tab. It sees the same page you do, after all scripts have run and with your sign-in. That is why it can handle card catalogs, infinite scroll and "Show more" buttons. Here is how it works in Grabsavo.
Step by step: website → Excel with Grabsavo
Step 1. Install the extension
Grabsavo runs in Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Yandex Browser and Firefox. Store links are on /install.
Step 2. Open the page with the list
Open the first page of the catalog, search results or table. If the site needs a sign-in, sign in as usual. Grabsavo uses your session and bypasses nothing.
Step 3. Run auto-detection
Click the extension icon. Grabsavo looks for tables and repeated blocks and marks the rows it found with thin teal frames and row numbers. If it picked the wrong list (the menu instead of the products, say), switch to the next candidate.
If auto-detection misses what you need, press "Pick manually" and click one item of the list — Grabsavo will pick up the other items of the same kind.
Step 4. Set up the columns
The preview shows a table. Usually you will want to:
- rename columns:
Name,Price,Linkinstead of technical names; - change a column type, for example "number" for the price;
- add a column by clicking an element on the page if a field is missing;
- drop what you do not need.
Step 5. Turn on pagination
| How the site works | What to choose in Grabsavo |
|---|---|
| A "Next" button or arrow | Next button |
Page numbers, ?page=2, /page/2 |
Page numbers / URL parameter |
| New items appear as you scroll | Infinite scroll |
| Only one block scrolls, not the page | Scroll inside a block |
| A "Show more" button | Show more button |
By default there is a random 2–4 second pause between pages. You can cap the number of pages. The run stops on its own when two pages in a row bring no new rows.
Step 6. Run it and read the report
Grabsavo goes through the pages and then shows a quality report: pages and rows collected, duplicates removed, columns with many empty values, and similar elements on the page that were not collected. That last item is useful — it tells you the selection may have missed, for example, discounted items with a different layout.
If the browser closed in the middle of a run, Grabsavo offers to continue from the saved page next time.
Step 7. Clean the data
Before exporting you can trim spaces, turn "$1,299.00" into a number plus a currency, convert dates to 2026-10-27, and remove duplicates by a key column. Cleaning steps are saved and re-applied on later runs. More in Data cleaning after scraping: 10 techniques.
Step 8. Export
Formats: Excel (XLSX), CSV, JSON, clipboard (one Ctrl+V into Excel or Google Sheets) and Google Sheets. The free version exports CSV and clipboard; Excel opens CSV directly.
When you need data from item pages
A list often has only the name and price, while brand, SKU and specs live on the item page. Pro has a details mode: pick the link column, Grabsavo opens the first item page and suggests fields — schema.org data and spec-table rows such as "Brand" or "Power". You tick the ones you need or click them on the page. Grabsavo then visits every link, no more than two at a time, and adds the columns. If an item page fails, the reason goes into a _status column instead of disappearing.
Common problems
Fewer rows than on the site. Check the quality report. If it lists similar elements that were not collected, press "Show" to see them on the page, then "Pick manually" and click one of them.
Pagination stopped at page two. The site may change the URL without a "Next" button. Try the page-number / URL-parameter mode.
Prices will not add up in Excel. They are text with spaces and a currency sign. Use the "price → number + currency" step or set the column type to number.
You repeat the job every week. Save the setup as a template (Pro) so you do not rebuild the columns each time.
What Grabsavo does not do
It collects what you can already see on an open page. No proxies, no captcha solving, no bypassing sign-ins or paywalls. Page data is not sent to Grabsavo servers. Check the site's rules before you collect — see Web scraping and the law.
Which to choose
- One table, one page — copy-paste or Power Query.
- A public HTML table you want to refresh — Power Query.
- A card catalog, many pages, scrolling, item-page details — an extension.
Try it
Practice on our demo catalog, which has every kind of pagination, from a "Next" button to scrolling inside a block. Install Grabsavo from /install. The free version handles up to 10 pages and 500 rows per run, and you can try Pro for 7 days without a card.
